Best known for her bovine renditions, with unique compositions and contemporary views, Denise has combined her love of animals and art in oil for the past 20 years.
Denise's focus for the past several years has been cows because "Cows make me smile. I seriously can't look at one and hold back a smile. I don't just see an animal, I see a personality, and that is what I am working to present in my paintings of cows." In 2006 Denise received a commission from the California Milk Advisory Board to paint their famous Happy Cows of the Real California Milk campaign. This led to becoming "The Official Happy Cow Artist", as seen on their website.
Her creative process begins with field work, taking reference photos. Cows being a favorite subject means "field work" can be taken literally, and involves careful stepping!
With a signature "painterly realism" style Denise breathes life
into her subjects, often bringing viewer comments of how "you could just reach out and touch them" and "I expect them to mooo".

Re: What's on the easel now?

Hey there Denise,
Midge from way downunder here!
Just thought I'd pop in and see how you're doing and I'm blown away by your work - both the quality and quantity - just AWESOME!!! You go girl!
The pig painting is fantastic. I too love pigs, and grew a few on my lovely Jersey milk. T'was always sad when they grown and ready for the freezer.
You'll be sad to learn that I don't have many cows now, only three left. I'm giving one of my favourite Jersey girls to my daughter as a wedding present in spring. Another is a Hereford/Jersey cross heifer for the freezer (best beef in the world!) and I'm yet to find the right home for my favourite Jersey girl of all time - it's all very sad. My health has really gone downhill so have had to make a lot of lifestyle changes. I had a steriod injection last week so feeling pretty darned good at present tho.!
I have a wee feral goat from up in the mountains that I'm hoping to take with me when we sell here next summer. She's such a character and very pretty. I won lots of prizes with her photos at the local agriculture shows last summer. I'll find a buck for her soon so she stops running away to visit with the neighbours rams when she's in heat! I'm not up to walking so far to collect her and she don't like my motorbike!
You obviously visit a few farms now to take pix to paint from - so enjoyable, isn't it! I still intend to learn to paint one day, but at present am doing a web building course via remote learning. My intentions are to offer my pix for sale via my own website and hopefully pick up some work building websites for others.
It's bedtime here now so will sign off. Hope you and yours are well and happy!
Toodles for now,
Midge
